Kellyville, Oklahoma has a deep-rooted history in Route 66 and Oklahoma history. It was founded by James E. Kelly in 1892. He started with a trading post. Later, the railroad came through, making Kellyville a newly established railroad town in 1898. The St. Louis (later Frisco) and OKC Railroad building lines through the town. The economy was based mainly on the four cotton gins, in addition to the Oil and gas industry. Sadly, the worst train wreck on the historic Route 66, and in Oklahoma history happened in Kellyville claiming many lives. Kellyville claims a 30-mile stretch of Route 66.
Route 66 also known as “The Mother Road”, was established in 1926. It spans from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California, a real and complete 2448 miles in distance. It is now a lovely existing route through the “Main Street of America”.
